Fahrenheit 451

Amazon.com: Books: Fahrenheit 451: "In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury's classic, frightening vision of the future, firemen don't put out fires--they start them in order to burn books. Bradbury's vividly painted society holds up the appearance of happiness as the highest goal--a place where trivial information is good, and knowledge and ideas are bad. Fire Captain Beatty explains it this way, 'Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs.... Don't give them slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.'"

I think this answers why Michael Moore's movie is called Fahrenheit 9/11!

Barcelona clubbers get chipped

BBC NEWS > Technology > Barcelona clubbers get chipped

Hip to be chipped... some anticipate that the "Mark of the Beast" is going to take this form - an implanted chip. I've heard others object that in modern society the powers that be can't simply force people to wear a chip, it's a violation of personal liberty. But things may well turn out like this article portends - people will want to be chipped, for the convenience of it.

Alien Abductions

Alien Abductions: The Real Deal?

Alien abduction or sleep paralysis? I think there is a bias toward a "scientific" explanation, why is this so?

The painful truth

Muslims' painful truth - Straits Times, SEPT 5, 2004: "'If all the enemies of Islam united together and decided to harm it...they wouldn't have ruined and harmed its image as much as the sons of Islam have done by their stupidity, miscalculations and misunderstanding of the nature of this age.' - MR AHMED BAHGAT, an Egyptian Islamist "

The above is re the Beslan school tragedy in Russia. I sympathise with this man's disappointment at human stupidity. Such terrible things happen as a result of some very dumb thought processes. And it's not just Muslim terrorists, though this article was about them. See the recent war on Iraq, that appears to be dumb and terrible also.

Exorcist: demon possession or obsession?

Exorcist: demon possession or obsession?

I didn't know a sulfur smell is associated with demons, but it's mentioned in this article. I think I remember reading about sulfur smells being present at the venue of UFO sightings in the Mothman Prophecies? An Internet search led me to this article on a website called the Spirit Daily: When It Comes To 'Extraterrestrials,' Great Caution Is The Order Of The Day.

The Spirit Daily also had this article: New York City Cop Points Out Dangers Of Ouija Board And 'Defenseless' Church, in which a NY cop warns that the Church doesn't seem to believe in demons anymore and is becoming defenseless in this regard. So, on the one hand, we have Christians going overboard with "demon obsession" (first link) and, on the other hand, Christians who don't believe in the Devil anymore (last link)! Please see Ecclesiastes 7:18 quoted in my Aug 29 blog! :-P
